Anna Mae Sloan (Loving) - Class Of 1915

Anna Mae (Sloan) Loving, 80 of Columbus, Ohio died suddenly on Sunday, August 28, 1977 at the residence after a short illness. Anna Mae was born October 4, 1896, the daughter of Mary Ellen (Evans) Sloan, residents of Olney, Illinois in the early teens and twenties.

She is survived by sons, William E. Loving Jr. and Charles K. Loving, both of Columbus, Ohio, Edwin N. Loving, Wilmington, Ohio; daughters, Mrs. Dale (June) Cochran, Columbus, Mrs. Robert (Betty) Altmaier, Scottsdale, Ariz. and Cedarville, Mich; Mrs. Dan (Patty) Hixenbaugh, Pittsburgh, Pa; 21 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was the widow of William E. Loving, prominent Real Estate Developer and Pioneer of Development of Columbus.

Mrs. Loving is preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. William H. (Anna May) Miller, Wilmette, Ill. and her husband, William E. Loving.

She was a member of Grace Brethren Church, Washington; Alumna of Ward Belmont College in Nashville. While at Belmont College, she had extensive vocal training. She later auditioned for the Metropolitan Opera in New York City under Herbert Witherspoon, however she chose to inspire her husband and devote her life in raising her seven children rather than following a career with the Metropolitan.

Mrs. Loving was President of the Childhood League; member of Sustaining Board No. 1; Symphony Club Patron; on the board of Children’s Hospital; member of Planned Parenthood Board; head of the Women’s Division of Community Chest Drive in 1950. She was one of the first women to head this drive and one of the first leaders of the First United Appeals Drive & Red Cross drive in 1951.

Funeral services at Schoedinger State Street Chapel with interment in Green Lawn Cemetery, Columbus, Ohio.
