Olney Soldier Killed in Korea
Pfc. Richard Frederick Giese, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Giese of 202 Brentwood St., Olney, was killed in action in Korea on May 13, 1953, the Defense Department announced today.
Pfc. Giese had been in the Army since April 29, 1951. He recently was sent to Korea where he was with the Seventh Infantry Regiment, Third Division. He was killed when his company was ambushed by the enemy while moving forward.
Besides his parents, he leaves a sister, Mrs. June Gaede, Mt. Carmel and a brother, Herschel, West Salem.
The body will be returned to Olney for funeral services in the Summers-Wilson Funeral Home with burial in the Moravian Cemetery in West Salem.

Mr. and Mrs. William F. Giese of 202 Brentwood have received notice that the remains of their son, Private First Class, Richard F. Giese, are en-route to the United States.
The Department of Defense recently advised the parents that their son had been killed in action in Korea last month.
The notice from the office of the Quartermaster General stated that the time of arrival of the body in the States or in Olney is unknown at present.
