She was the wife of William D. Ogdon, a retired member of the Editorial Board of the New York Times. Her husband died in June.
Mrs. Ogdon was born July 23, 1907 in Jasper County Illinois to William Clarence & Lola Pickering Hammer. She had her early schooling in Olney, Illinois and St. Louis. She met her future husband while employed in the St. Louis YMCA membership office, where he went daily to play four-wall handball.

After a year in New York City and a brief stay in Philipse Manor, the couple spent two years in the Washington D.C. area. Shortly after returning to New York, they moved to what later became Tarrytown’s Grove St. Historical area, where they lived for more than 50 years.
Mrs. Ogdon was a collector of Victorian furniture appropriate to their 1867 house. She was admired for her skill in quilting, rug making and needlepoint, said her son, Thomas H. Ogdon of both New York City and Carmel. Her book reviews for clubs she belonged to were admired for their thoroughness and literary style, her son said. Her favorite pastime was contract bridge.
