Frances "Aileen" Shafer (Herman) - Class Of 1922

Mrs. Frances “Aileen” (Shafer) Herman, age 73, of Rt. 1 Claremont, Illinois passed away this morning, October 13, 1976 at the St. Vincent's Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The body is being returned to the Summers Funeral Home where arrangements will be announced later.

Mrs. Herman, born in Illinois June 16, 1903, was a lifelong resident of the county and was the daughter of James O. Shafer and Mable (Sherraden) Shafer. She was married to Lawrence A. Herman on Jan. 1, 1934. He passed away Nov. 15, 1952.

Mrs. Herman was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Olney. She had been an educator in the Elementary school system for many years having taught for several years in Lawrence County at the Washington School, the Sumner Schools and others. She was a member of Goodwill Rebekah Lodge in Olney, the National Retired Teacher's Association and several other teachers organizations.

She leaves three sons: Bob Herman of Williston, N.D., Bill Herman of Williamsfield, and Bud Herman of Olney. There are nine grandchildren. She also leaves a sister, Mrs. Mabel McCaw of Claremont and a brother Walter (Pat) Shafer of Maquon.

Her mother and father have preceded her in death along with her husband.
