Paul L. Guthrie, principal of Dunbar High School, Lexington, Kentucky since 1938, died yesterday, April 29, 1966 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
Guthrie, 63 became ill at his home during the night and was taken to the hospital where he died abut five hours later.
A native of Olney, Illinois, he had taught at public schools in Tennessee and Illinois and at colleges in Louisiana, Kentucky and Florida. He was principal at Richmond High School eight years before coming here.
Guthrie was a former president of the Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools for Negroes, the Blue Grass Principals’ Conference and the Blue Grass Teachers Association.
He held degrees from Fisk and Indiana Universities.
Survivors include the widow; twin sons, Robert and Paul L. Guthrie, Jr. and nine grandchildren.
The body is at Cunningham Funeral Home with burial in Cove Haven Cemetery, Lexington, Kentucky.
