Frank R. Runyen - Class Of 1921

Frank R. Runyen, 85, of Springfield, died Friday, December 16, 1988 at Memorial Medical Center.

He was born in Olney on Aug. 23, 1903, the son of the late Jacob A. and Florence E. Rowley Runyen.

A resident of Springfield since 1934, he was a civil engineer for 35 years with the Illinois Department of Transportation. He married Sylvia Mangum in 1925.

Mr. Runyen was a member of the Douglas Avenue United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge in Olney, and also a member of Springfield York Rite Bodies, Valley of Springfield AASR, Ansar Temple, Ansar Retiree's Club, Court 20 ROJ and Ansar Arab Patrol, of which he was a member for over 47 years, serving as captain for several years and retiring as a major.

Surviving are his wife, Sylvia; one son, James R. of Springfield; two sisters, Mrs. Arthur (Lois) Witman of St. Louis, Mo., and Mrs. Raymond (Ruth) Thomas of Flora; one niece and two nephews.

Services at Bisch Memorial Home, the Rev. Robert McDonald officiating. Burial in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
