Howard M. Bailey - Class Of 1920

Howard M. Bailey, 69, of Bradenton, Florida, formerly of Olney passed away Friday morning January 30, 1970 at Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton. The remains are being returned to Olney.  Funeral services at the Summers-Rainey Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. W.A. Robinson officiating. Interment in Haven Hill Cemetery.

Born in Richland County on October 18, 1900, Mr. Bailey was the son of the late Lewis Edward and Laura Mitchell Bailey.  He was a graduate of the 1920 class of the Olney Township High School and attended the University of Illinois.  He became an employee of the Central Illinois Public Service Co. in 1925.  At the time of his retirement in 1965, he had served twenty three years as superintendent of the Olney group offices of the company.  He and Mrs. Bailey moved to Florida about two years ago.

Mr. Bailey was active in various civic and community affairs.

He was a member of Olney Lodge No. 926, BPOE, various Masonic bodies and Olney Shrine Club.  He was also a member of the First United Methodist church in Olney and recently transferred his membership to the Christ United Methodist Church at Bradenton.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; three sons, Robert of Indianapolis, George of Sarasota, Fla. and Frank of Charleston.  He is also survived by two grandchildren; a brother, Frank Bailey of Silver Springs, Maryland and a sister, Miss Lois Bailey of Washington, D.C.
