Olney Girl is Student Suicide

Lynchburg, VA – Feb. 13, 1928 – Dorothy Augusta Freeman, 18, of Olney, Ill, a student at Randolph-Macon Women’s college here, took her life Sunday night by firing a pistol bullet into her right temple.

Students found the girl lying lifeless on the floor of her room with a pistol nearby. A letter addressed to her parents lay on the table.

The coroner could suggest no motive for the act. The girl’s scholastic work was said to be good. The girl was rather despondent, not liking the social activities of the school.

Miss Freeman, who took her own life Sunday night was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Freeman of Olney. She was a graduate of Olney High School of the Class of 1927, where she ranked high scholastically and socially. She represented the school a number of times in scholastic competition. Friends here could suggest no motive for the act.

Besides her parents, she is survived by one brother, Maurice, who is attending Yale.

Mr. and Mrs. Fletcher Miller and Birdie Freeman of Olney attended the funeral. The funeral was held in Henderson, KY at the home of her grandparents on Wednesday morning at 10:30. Mr. and Mrs. A.M. Freeman, the parents, reached Henderson at 8 o’clock Tuesday night.

Miss Dorothy Freeman, 18, a student at the Randolph-Macon College in Lynchburg, Virginia, died in her dormitory last evening, February 12, 1928.

She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Freeman of Olney.
