John Hawkins

John L. Hawkins, 63, of Noble, passed away this morning (May 1972) at the Richland Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Hawkins was born in Decker Township, December 3, 1909 (sic) the son of Edward A. and Harriette Ask Hawkins. He was united in marriage with Genelle Shafer, June 18, 1930 in Flora, Ill. Mr. Hawkins had recently retired as the manager of the Illinois State Employment Service Office in Olney. He was a faithful and active member of the First Christian Church in Noble and Past Commander of Effingham Post No. 120 American Legion.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Edward A. and his wife, Rose Marie and John P. all of Calif.; one granddaughter, Alice Marie and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, George.

Funeral services at the Zirkle Mortuary with the Rev. R.E. Dowden officiating. Interment in the Noble Cemetery.
