Harvey Stevens - Class Of 1933

Harvey E. Stevens, 58, highly repected resident of Parkersburg, died January 1, 1973 at the Richland Memorial Hospital Monday after a long period of illness.

A native of the Parkersburg area, he was born July 13, 1914, son of the late John and Ethel Treece Stevens.

He was a 1934 (sic) graduate of the Olney Township High School and following graduation worked for a time in the office of the County Treasurer.

He was an active member and former superintendent of the United Methodist Church School at Parkersburg where he had belonged for many years. He was also a member of the Parkersburg Lodge No. 509 AF&AM and was also a 32nd degree Mason, being a member of the Mississippi Valley Consistory at Belleville. He was a past zone governor of the Ruritan National of this area and was a charter member of the Parkersburg Ruritan Club. He was a part time employee of Prairie Farms in Olney.

Active in civic affairs, he served years ago as a member of the Parkersburg Village Board and had served as Democratic precinct committeeman for a number of years and was for eight years a state highway employee under the Kerner state administration.

He was appointed assessor of Madison township two years ago and was serving that office at the time of his death. He operated a general store in Parkersburg for ten years and while in business served a term as a member of the County Welfare Services Committee.

He had also been a long time employee of the East Richland Community Unit District school prior to taking state employment.

He was married to Helen Wilkerson of Olney on August 8, 1936 and she survives along with two sons, Thomas of Bridgeport and John of Pawnee. There are also 4 grandchildren. He is survived by the following brothers and sisters; Homer Stevens of Parkersburg, Earl Stevens of Parkersburg, Robert Stevens of Alvin Tx, Bernard Stevens of TX, Verity Clodfelter of Parkersburg and Mrs. Mildred McFarland of South Bend, IN.
