Thelma Smith (McClain)

Thelma M. (Smith) McClain, 85, of Olney, died Sunday, June 18, 2000. Mrs. McClain was born February 13, 1915, in Fairfield, the daughter of William Emery and Mamie (Byers) Smith. She married Robert A. Quayle in 1933. He preceded her in death on August 11, 1952. She then met Sherman McClain of New Liberty, Ky., and they married August 24, 1962. He survives.

She owned and operated the Trading Post for almost 38 years. She was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church and was Choir Director for 40 years and worked 13 years in the grocery business with IGA.

Mrs. McClain is survived by her husband, Sherman McClain, of Olney; four sons, Robert W. Quayle and his wife, Sue of Olney, Sanford Keith Quayle and his wife, Joyce, of Stoughton, Wis., Tom Quayle and his wife, Alice, of Moline, and James Arthur Quayle and his wife, Mary, of Dubuque, Iowa; one daughter, Lucinda Gay Dale and her husband Pete, of The Woodlands, Texas; one sister, Ina Louise Koertge of Virginia Beach, Va.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, two sons, Jon Michael and an infant son, four brothers and one sister.

Funeral services at Immanuel United Methodist Church in Olney with Reverend Charles McDonald officiating. Burial in Haven Hill Cemetery in Olney.
