Vera (Mullins) Hughdella Welch, 82, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, died Thursday February 5, 1998 at the Isabell County Medical Care Facility in Mt. Pleasant, Mich.  Services at Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Benton Heisler officiating. Burial in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.

Welch was born June 19, 1915 in Clay City, the daughter of Michael Sparling and Nica (Graham) Mullins. She married Murell Letroit Welch March 21, 1940 in Olney. He preceded her in death May 18, 1981.

She was well-known in Olney having attended Olney schools. She was in the Class of 1933. She lived in Mt. Pleasant area since 1953. She worked in the oil industry as an independent oil and gas producer for 30 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the MOGA and the Independent Petroleum Association of America.

She is survived by her children, Marilyn Malone and her husband, William of Mason, Mich., Madelaine Gillis and her husband, John of Breckenridge and Janet Darrow and her husband, Matthew of Ypsilanti; and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by both parents, her husband and a sister, Isabel Delaney of Olney.
