Selma Colvin (Kesler) - Class Of 1933

Selma A. Kesler, 84, an elementary school teacher who taught in four public school systems in DuPage County, died Sunday, July 23, 2000 in her Warrenville, Illinois home.

Mrs. Kesler taught in Villa Park, Darien, Glen Ellyn and Bloomingdale schools for more than 20 years.

Born November 26, 1915 and raised in Olney, Ill., daughter of Pearl and Rosa (Urfer) Colvin, Mrs. Kesler attended Eastern Illinois University and Wheaton College, and received a master's degree in education from Northern Illinois University. "There was nothing she didn't do," said her daughter VirginiaLee Metz. "She was a painter, played the piano and enjoyed decorating her home."

Mrs. Kesler lived in Lombard for 40 years and is remembered for her optimism. "The grandchildren often say they want to grow up to be like her," Metz said. "She loved children and they loved her."

Other survivors include another daughter, Joy Anne Achtipes; a son, Harley; six grandchildren; two brothers, Delbert and Bobby Colvin; and two sisters, Pauline Stealy and Betty Dunn.

 Services held in Brust Funeral Home, Lombard.
