Iva Herdes (Gaskin) - Class Of 1933

Iva Ione Gaskin, 91, of Chrisman, formerly of Clay City, died Friday, May 18, 2007, at Pleasant Meadows Christian Village in Chrisman.

Mrs. Gaskin was born August 8, 1915, in Clay County, the daughter of James and Jannie (Lee) Herdes. She married Carrell Gaskin in 1934 in Clay County. He preceded her in death on March 19, 1972.

She was a retired homemaker, a member of Rebekah Lodge in Clay City for more than 50 years and a member of Clay City United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Gaskin is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Gill and her husband, Jim, of Ridge Farm, and Sondra Phillips and her husband, Aaron, of Belleville; grandchildren, Rick Gill and his wife, Kim, of Avon, Ind., Steve Gill and his wife, Hyong, of Brighton, Tenn., Terri Compton, and her husband, Leon, of Westville, and Mark Phillips and his wife, Kim, of Norris City; great-grandchildren, Jim Gill, of San Francisco, Calif., area, Mike Gill, of Louisville, Ky., Savannah Gill, of Brighton, Tenn., Garrett Black, of Marion, Iowa, Cassidy Spesard, of Ridge Farm, and Nick Gill, of Avon, Ind.; step-great-grandchildren, Lindsey and Kayla Moody; great-great-grandchildren, Mason and Abby Gill, of California, and Sydney Spesard, of Ridge Farm.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and two sisters.

Services at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Clay City with Bro. Jim Thomas and Rev. Deb Talbott officiating. Burial in Clay City Cemetery.
