In Memory

Lucille Elizabeth Gerber (Kincaid) - Class Of 1946

Lucille Elizabeth Gerber (Kincaid)

Lucille Elizabeth (Gerber) Kincaid, of Olney, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2023 at her home. Lucille was born on January 29, 1928 and was the third of seven children born in Richland County to William and Elva Gerber.

She graduated from Olney Township High School and began working at the Shoe Factory office in Olney. She married Stanley William Kincaid on October 14, 1947. She later worked as secretary for Trinity Lutheran Church, the Soil Conservation Service, and the Agricultural Soil Conservation Services. She also worked for many years as the payroll clerk for Prairie Farms Dairy before her retirement in 1993.

First and foremost, she considered herself to be a farm wife and took pride in helping her husband on the family farm. Together they raised a large garden and enjoyed the fruits of their labors as well as canning and freezing lots of vegetables. They had a good life on the farm milking cows, raising chickens, making apple cider, picking blackberries, going fishing, and giving pony cart rides to family and friends. They made a go-cart track and operated a Gator for the grandchildren.

Lucille was a 4-H leader of the Snip & Snack Club as well as an excellent seamstress and cook (her pies were especially enjoyed at church carry-ins). She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and she loved her church family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Elva Gerber, her husband of 53 years, Stanley W. Kincaid, as well as her sister, Alice (Cessna) Fisher, and her brothers, Loren and Leroy Gerber.

She is survived by her daughters, Margaret (Larry) Cartmill of Olney, IL and Linda (Jack) Neil of Belvidere, IL, her brothers, Paul (Betty Lou) Gerber of Sarasota, FL, Ray (Sharon) Gerber of Olney, IL, and her sister, Thelma (Frank) Schwartz of Olney, IL. Also, left to cherish her memory are four grandchildren: Jared (Morgan) Neil of Dallas, OR, Jenny Cartmill of St. Charles, MO, Brian Neil of Belvidere, IL, and Emily (Ross) Petty of Effingham, IL, as well as two great-grandchildren, Owen and Nora Petty of Effingham, IL. She leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Special thanks go to her wonderful caregivers who worked tirelessly and faithfully to keep her in her home: Sara Brown, Heather Goupil, and Lee Ann Yager.

A funeral service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Olney at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, with a visitation beginning one-hour prior at the church.

Interment will follow the service at Crest Haven Memorial Park in Claremont.
