Nancy Poland (Hocking)

Nancy (Poland) Hocking, 96, a lifelong resident of Olney, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana. She was born in Olney on February 6, 1927, the youngest daughter of Courtland Poland and Anna (Watkins) Poland. Nancy married Robert Gene Hocking on March 11, 1948, and he survives.

Nancy graduated from Olney Township High School in 1945, then attended the University of Illinois. After marriage, she became a great homemaker. Nancy loved to cook and bake for her family members. She always had a project she was working on with her nimble fingers whether it be embroidery, applique, cross-stitch, crochet, knitting, sewing, or quilting. Each of her grandchildren have one of her handmade quilts to cherish. In addition to this, she loved to play bridge and golf.

Nancy is survived by her husband of 75 years, Robert Hocking of Olney; son Robert Steve Hocking and wife Karla (Pflaum) of Noble, IL; son, David Hocking and wife Deborah (Hovey) of Dundas, IL; son, Michael Hocking and wife Marilyn (Coe) of Ridgefield, WA; 8 grandchildren, Sean Hocking and wife Sarah; Gabriel Hocking and wife Amy; Jesse Hocking; Nathan Hocking and wife Angie; Sarah Coffey and husband Matt; Hannah Gearheart and husband Joel; Aaron Hocking and wife Carolyn; Courtney Gacek and husband Matt; 16 great grandchildren, Liam, Benne, Emma, Ethan, Mikey, Isabella, Mia, Sadie, Grace, Lilly, Eli, Zeke, Isaac, Trent, Emily, and Owen; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Olive Young; brother-in-law, Max Hocking and sister-in-law, Margaret Hocking; brother-in-law Herb T. Young.

A visitation for Nancy will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Monday, May 22, 2023 at Kistler Patterson Funeral Home in Olney. Following the visitation, a graveside service will be held at 11:30 AM at Haven Hill Memorial Gardens in Olney.
