Joe M. Slater, 78, of New Port Richey, died Thursday (June 11, 1998) at Hospice House, New Port Richey.

Born in Olney, Ill., he came here 21 years ago from Pompano Beach. He was a Navy senior chief serving in World War II and Evangelical. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Lee; a son, Stephen C. Wise, Fort Lauderdale; a daughter, Maureen Harrod, Louisville, Ky.; three brothers, Richard, Gulfport, Miss., John, Olney, and Elmer, Richmond, Va.; two sisters, Hattie Adamson, Casper, Wyo., and Buena King, Spokane, Wash.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
