Leland E. Groff

Leland Groff, age 39, a former resident of Olney, was fatally injured about 6:30 p.m. Saturday March 22, 1958, near Urbana, IL.

According to reports of the accident, Groff and a companion were traveling to Olney to visit relatives in this area. Their car was southbound on Highway 45, when the right front wheel was thrown from the car.

He and his companion were attempting to retrieve the wheel, when he was struck and killed instantly by a car driven by Samuel Yerger of Cissna Park.

Mr. Groff leaves his father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Groff of Sumner; two sisters, Mrs. Carrie Mae Bail and Mrs. Norma Jean Feutz, both of Olney, IL, two brothers, Loy Groff of Lawrenceville and Jack Groff of Evansville, IN.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the Memorial Chapel of Summers-Wilson Funeral Home, with Rev. Paul Ragsdale officiating. Interment was in Haven Hill Cemetery, Olney, IL.
