
Adeline “Nadine” Boyer, age 78, passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, IL. Nadine was born on May 9, 1946, in Franklin, PA to the late Robert E. and Jean L. (Sadler) Boyer.
She is survived by two sisters, Barbara A. McClain, Cathy J. Boyer, both of Mattoon, IL; one nephew, Brian D. Zachow and wife Janelle of Bloomington, IL; one niece, Dawn M. Zachow of Mattoon, IL; two great nephews, Jared and Hunter Zachow of Bloomington, IL; and one great niece, Rachel Zachow of Bloomington, IL. She is preceded in death by one sister, Bonnie Jean Zachow.
Nadine attended Eastern Illinois University, where she received her Bachelor of Science and Education, Master’s Degree in Physical Education and Sports Administration, and Master’s Degree of Education Specialist in Guidance and Counseling. From 1972 until 1980, Nadine was a teacher, guidance counselor, and coach at Freeport High School in Freeport, IL. During her time there, she was instrumental in pioneering the start of the women’s sports program with the assistance of the Congressional Act in 1972, Title IX. From 1973 until 1979, her coaching, with the assistance of two others, led to eleven conference championships in track, volleyball, and tennis. This amazing achievement led Nadine to become a very proud recipient of Glenn “Pat” Holmes Award in January of 2015.
She continued her career as guidance counselor and Guidance Director from 1990 until 2007, and Student Service Department Chair from 1994 until 2007. With the abundance of impact Nadine made throughout her career, she was recognized as Who’s Who Among American University Women.
Nadine was a devout member of First United Methodist Church in Mattoon, a dog lover, and avid reader. She leaves behind a legacy as a trailblazer, loving sister, and doting aunt.
Memorials in her honor may be made to the Coles County Animal Shelter, 6818 North County Road 1120 East, Charleston, IL 61920.
A funeral service in her honor will be held at noon, Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, located at 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938; Reverend Todd Krost and Reverend Ron Dickinson will officiate. The committal service will immediately follow at Findlay Cemetery in Findlay, IL. The visitation will be held the same day at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until the time of service
