Maynard M. Davis

Sgt. Maynard Davis Was Drowned in Action Feb. 5 - Mrs. Mildred Davis, wife of Sgt. Maynard Davis has received word from the War Department that her husband, Sgt. Maynard Davis, 26, was drowned in action in Germany on February 5, 1945.

Sgt. Davis was with the Fifth Armored Division of the First Army, was believed to have been drowned when the Germans released water from the giant dams along the Roer River, which reportedly caused a heavy loss of lives among the First Army forces which were fighting below the dam in the Aachen area.

Before entering the armed service, Davis was employed at the Olney Greenhouses and also at the Fessel Cleaners.  Sgt. Davis went overseas just a year ago this month.

Besides his wife and a six months old daughter living at Newton, Sgt. davis is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew J. Davis of North Morgan Street, Olney; one brother, Emil C. Davis of Olney and three sisters, Mrs. Mildred DuPree of Chicago and Flo Ellen and Marilynn at home.

Sgt. Davis is buried in the American Military Cemetery in the Netherlands which is situated near the village of Margraten, Netherlands on the main highway to Aachen, Germany. (Sgt Davis - U.S. Army 85th Cavalry Reconn Squadron 5th Armored Division)
