Freida G. Slunaker (Foster)

Freida Foster, 84, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on Monday, December 30, 2002 after a long illness. Funeral services in Demotte, Ind. with burial in the Wheatfield Cemetery in Wheatfield, Ind.

Mrs. Foster was born on October 3, 1918 in Minot, N.D., the daughter of Fred and Mona (Nichol) Slunaker.  She married Justus Foster on September 25, 1949 in Princeton, Ind.  He died January 29, 1986.

She grew up in Calhoun, attending Calhoun schools and taking her senior year at Olney Township High School.  She attended one year at  Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, going on to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. to complete her nursing degree.  She joined her brothers, Vaughn, Vernon and Wayne in service as an R.N. with the U.S. Army Nurse Corps and served in England with the 68th Hospital Unit.  She was there on D-Day taking care of casualties brought in to the hospital.

Mrs. Foster is survived by two sons and three daughters; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Noma Anderson of Princeton, Ind. and a brother, Wayne Slunaker and his wife, Phyllis of Olney.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Justus; two brothers, Vaughn and Vernon and a sister, Enola.
