Mary Alice (Nix) Burgett, 92, of Belleville, Ill., born Oct. 28, 1917, in Ingraham, Ill., died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010 at Saint Paul's Home in Belleville, Ill.
Mrs. Burgett worked as a licensed funeral director for Burgett Funeral Homes in New Douglas and Livingston, Illinois. She also worked at Scott AFB for 23 years, Butler Aviation in Chicago, Ill., and the St. Clair Farm Bureau.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Olney, Ill., and St. Matthew United Methodist Church in Belleville, Ill., New Life Club, former choir member, Rob Morris Chapter 98 O.E.S., former member of the Philharmonic Chorale, Metro East Chorale, Clin-Claire Sweet Adeline and Wednesday Club and a charter member of American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 710 in New Douglas, Ill. She wrote extensive poetry throughout the years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Burgett; parents, John Anthony and Mina Ellen, nee Crackel, Nix; step-son, David M. Burgett; step-grandson, Danny Burgett.
Surviving are her daughter, Mary Nelle Chew of Carbondale, Ill.; grandsons, James Lee Chew and Larry Ray Chew; step-grandson, David Burgett; great-grandchildren, Steven Chew, Robert Chew, Reed Chew, Austin Chew and Michelle Templeton; two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service held at Kurrus Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Patton officiating. Interment at Haven Hill Cemetery, Olney, Ill.
