Elizabeth Hasslinger (Bailey) - Class Of 1935

Elizabeth Bailey, 89, of Shelbyville, formerly of Olney, died Tuesday, May 8, 2007, at Shelby Memorial Hospital in Shelbyville.  Funeral services at the Howe & Yockey Funeral Home in Shelbyville with Rev. Lee Lovett and Dr. Bruce Owens officiating. Burial in Glenwood Cemetery in Shelbyville.

Mrs. Bailey was born August 20, 1917, in Olney, the daughter of Karl and Edith Foster Hasslinger. She married James O. Bailey on April 9, 1948. He survives.

She graduated from Olney Township High School in the Class of 1935. She was a telephone operator and supervisor for State of Illinois in Olney. She later worked in Shelbyville for Sta-Rite Ginnie Lou, Inc., L.E. Weakly Insurance Agency, Shelbyville schools as a bookkeeper, and at First United Methodist Church as a church secretary.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Kum Dubble Sunday School class and Thursday Club, all in Shelbyville.

Mrs. Bailey is survived by her husband, James; daughter, Marilyn Thompson and her husband, Alan, of Tower Hill; granddaughters, Elizabeth Walter, of Charleston, and Katherine Walter, of Mattoon; step-granddaughter, Kelly Diaz, of Florida; and two step-great-grandchildren, Tristan and Mia, of Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Glenn and W.C. Hasslinger, and one infant brother.
