Myrtle Walker (Pierson)

Myrtle I. (Walker) Pierson, 92 of Monticello, Illinois, died Wednesday Aug. 26, 2009 in St. Mary's Hospital. Graveside services held in the Monticello Cemetery. Trigg & Calvert Chapel, DeLand, in charge of arrangements.

Myrtle was born April 5, 1917, in Wayne County, the daughter of Charles Perry and Glenna Marie (Harris) Walker. She married L. Carmen Pierson on Nov. 30, 1938, in Monticello. He preceded her in death June 6, 1990.

She worked several years as a clerk for the Piatt County A.S.C.S. office in Monticello. She also was a general office worker at the Monticello Headquarters of Americana Nursing Centers. Myrtle authored articles for the Piatt County Journal-Republican until 2007. She enjoyed crocheting and reading. She was affiliated with the Eckankar Church in Minneapolis, Minn.

Surviving are her son, Paul L. Pierson of Lebanon, Ohio; daughter, Elsie L. (Edward) Sparks of Provo, Utah; brother, E. Leland (Betty) Walker of Champaign; sister, Marilyn (Edward) Olivier of Decatur; six grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
