Earl Varner

Robert Earl Varner, Sr. of 707 E. Cherry St., Olney passed away Tuesday December 23, 1986 at his home. Funeral services at Summers Funeral Home with Rev. Dewey Thackston officiating.  Burial in Haven Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Varner was born April 27, 1914 in Richland County, the son of Robert William and Gertrude Henby Varner.  He married Margaret VonAlmen on August 5, 1933 in Olney.

The retired pipe fitter was a deacon of the Elm Street Christian Church, the Olney Masonic Lodge No. 140, the Royal Arch Masons and the Swords of Bunker Hill of Illinois.  He was a Little League coach and manager for Prairie Farms teams 1957-1967.

Mr. Varner is survived by his wife, Margaret VonAlmen Varner, of Olney; three sons; David Varner of Austin, Texas, Robert Earl Varner, Jr. of Olney and Harold Varner of San Jose, Calif.; three daughters, Marjorie VanBuskirk, Ojai, Calif., Rosemary Brown, Evansville, Ind., Earlene Spillman of Olney; one sister, Betty Boling, St. Louis, Mo.; 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, three sisters and two brothers.
