Mary Gray (Madden)

Mary Josephine, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Gray, was born in Lawrence County, IL, March 11, 1912. She grew to womanhood in Richland County, graduating from Olney Township High School in 1930. She taught one year in a rural school in Richland County.

She united with the Prairie Hall Christian Church in 1924 at the age of 12 years. She remained an active member of that church and was the teacher of the Junior class in Sunday school at the time of her death.

On June 11, 1932, she was united in marriage with Willard Madden of Olney, IL. To this union were born 3 sons, Robert Louis, Richard Dean, and Frederick Lee.

On Tuesday, January 6th, she became critically ill and was rushed to the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, where she passed away at 5 p.m., Wednesday, January 7, 1942 at the age of 29 years, 9 months, and 27 days.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her devoted husband, 3 sons, her parents, one sister Mrs. Edith Reed, of Lockport, IL; 3 brothers, John W. Gray of Beckley, WV; Jack Gray at home with his parents; and Private Donald L. Gray of Pomona, CA, besides a host of other relatives and friends.
