Mari Carla Williamson (Summers) - Class Of 1930

Mary Williamson Summers, 85, of Lawrenceburg, Tenn. died Tuesday April 15, 1997 at Lawrenceburg Manor Nursing Home in Tennessee.

Being a long-time medical professional, Summers made the humanitarian decision many years ago that her remains were to be used for medical research. Medical students at Vanderbilt University in Nashville will benefit by her generous contribution.

Summers was born August 29, 1911 in Calhoun, the daughter of Dr. E.L. and Marguerite Jane Williamson. She married Gilbert F. Summers of Olney May 2, 1941. He preceded her in death in August 1996.

She was of the Catholic faith and was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Lawrenceburg, Tenn. She learned the nursing profession under her father. She nursed in the Richland County rural areas delivering babies, caring for illnesses and accidents and making home visits day or night. She worked at Fairfield Memorial Hospital in the late 1950's. she worked at hospitals in Gainesville, Fla. and Lawrenceburg, Tenn., where she retired after 40 years in the profession.

She is survived by two sons, Richard Summers and his wife, Betty and Patrick Summers and his wife, Yoshie, all of Lawrenceburg, Tenn.; two daughters, Judy Wood and her husband, Don of DeSoto and Sherri Andrus and her husband, Arnold of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; one brother, Jim "Doc" Williamson and his wife, Norma of Olney.
