Dema Heady (Varnier) - Class Of 1930

Mary D. Varnier, 94, of Marion, Ind died Wednesday, September 13, 2006, in Wesleyan Health Care Center in Marion. Mary was born on September 25, 1911, in Jasper County, Ill., the daughter of the late Thomas and Cassie Jane (Pulliam) Heady. She married Lyman Varnier on July 3, 1947. He preceded her in death on March 2, 2001.

Mary was a registered nurse at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Marion for 30 years, retiring in 1966. She was a member of the Gethsemane Episcopal Church where she was a member of the Episcopal Church Women and served on the Altar Guild for 20 years. She was also a member of the Marion Retired Nurses Club; the Ladies Auxilliary of the American Legion Post #10; the A.A.R.P.; and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

Survivors include several cousins in the Jasper and Crawford County, Ill. area; sister-in-law, Margaret Harrison, Mt. Eagle, Tenn.; guardians, Bill and Jean Klein, Marion; and close friend, Helen Austin, Marion.

She was also preceded in death by a stillborn sister, Patricia Ann Heady.

Services at Gethsemane Episcopal Church with Father Jim Warnock officiating. Graveside Service and Burial in Headyville Cemetery, rural Newton, Ill.
