Anna Balmer (Rose)

Anna Elizabeth (Balmer) Rose, age 92, of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away April 10, 2005.  Anna was born May 9, 1912 in Olney, Illinois, daughter of William Tell Balmer and Mira S. (Smith) Balmer. Anna and Walton Wood Rose were married on June 19, 1937 in Richland County, Illinois.

Anna was a graduate of Eastern Illinois State Teachers College, now Eastern Illinois University. Soon after their marriage, Anna and Walton moved to Atlanta and joined Peachtree Christian Church. They were active in the Vanguard and Partners Sunday School Classes, and she was a loyal member of the Group of Abigail-Esther. Anna sat on the Board of the Southern Christian Children's Home and served as Vice-President of the Grady H.S. PTA when her daughterss were in school there. She enjoyed her garden, travel, and Airstream activities at The Top of Georgia. Most of all, though, she enjoyed her friends, neighbors, and family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Louise and Joe Miller and Martha and Paul Vickers; her grandchildren, Joe and Jennifer Miller, Laura (Miller) and Tom Dovan, Elizabeth (Vickers) and Geoff Macdonald, Paul Vickers III, and Katherine (Vickers) and Brian Cornell; her great-grandchildren, Chip and Anna Miller, Katie and Andrew Dovan, Lauren Macdonald, and Michael Cornell. She is also survived by three sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Walton Wood Rose.

The funeral service at Peachtree Christian Church, Dr. Jim Collins officiating. Interment at Westview Cemetery.
