
Abram "Abe" Struble, Jr., 79, of Olney, IL, passed away January 9, 2025 at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney, IL.
Abe was born May 18, 1945 in Olney, IL, the son of Abram Struble Sr. and Nellie Viola (Lawson) Struble. He married Phyllis Totten on February 1, 1969 in Olney, IL, and she survives.
Abe served in the US Army during the Vietnam Era and was an active member of the Local VFW Post #4226. He participated in numerous services for veterans as a member of the Honor Guard detail. It was important to him to participate in all activities to support our veterans, whether it was walking in the parades or working at the VFW chowder. Abe was proud of the time he served in the military.
Abe was a Union Laborer and worked on many local roads and buildings. He spent his retirement often driving around to keep up on the local projects in town.
Abe enjoyed watching sports, especially St. Louis Cardinals and the Dallas Cowboys. He also enjoyed whittling walking sticks and working outside in his garden. You could often find him at the fire pit in the backyard burning brush from the yard.
Abe absolutely adored his family and would help in any way he could.
Abe was survived by his wife of 55 years, Phyllis Struble of Olney; daughters, Julie Struble of Olney, and Kelly York and husband Gary of Olney; grandsons, Anthony Bell and wife Megan of Noble, and Damein York of Olney; great grandchildren, Braxsen, Brayzee, and Bryder; sister, Donna Runyon of Olney; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Carol Travis; and nephew, Chad Runyon.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
