Kenneth D. Wendling

Mr. Kenneth D. Wendling, 84, of Taylorville, IL passed away at 3:50 PM Sunday, December 7, 2014 in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, IL.

Kenneth was born near Olney, IL January 27, 1930, the son of August J. and Clara M. (Poehler) Wendling. He married Virginia Lee Herter on December 23, 1955 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Springfield, IL. She survives.

Mr. Wendling was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Taylorville, IL. He served in the US Air Force from 1951 to 1955 as a S/SGT Assistant Chief Clerk with the 49th Air Division. Kenneth received a Bachelors Degree in 1958 and a Masters Degree in 1960 from Eastern Illinois University. Mr. Wendling taught elementary school at Hewett, West and Owaneco Schools; served as Principal of Memorial School from 1962 to 1965 and then served as Dean of Boys and Assistant Principal at Taylorville Junior High School until his retirement in 1990. He loved spending time with his family and friends.

Surviving are his wife Virginia Wendling; a son Stephen “Steve” (Angela) Wendling and a daughter Karen Lee Ladage all of Taylorville, IL.;  five grandchildren; two brothers Ralph (Janet) Wendling and Curt Wendling both of Olney, IL;  a sister Margie Ann White of Petersburg, IL along with several nieces and nephews.

His parents and a sister Dorothy preceded him in death.

Funeral services held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Taylorville with Pastor Rodney Blomquist officiating. Burial in Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, IL with military honors by the U.S. Air Force.
