Verna M. Phillips (Stanfield) - Class Of 1948

Verna M. Phillips (Stanfield)

Verna Maxine (Phillips) Stanfield, 94, of Marion, IL, formerly of Olney, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2025 at Deaconess Illinois Medical Center in Marion.

Verna Stanfield was born June 1, 1930 in Olney, IL, the daughter of Raymond Oscar Phillips and Christina Mae (Arledge) Phillips. She married Ronald Steven Stanfield on December 29, 1951 in Olney, and he preceded her in death on December 12, 2004.

Verna Stanfield was a stronger person than most people gave her credit for. She was the rock in the family. She loved her husband, her children, her grandchildren, and everyone in her family very much. Verna stepped up when things were difficult. She became the provider for the family when she needed to. Verna went back to school later in life, and she graduated college when her oldest daughter graduated high school. She always supported her husband in all of his ventures, and they were very successful with their pottery business, One of a Kind. Their pottery was even displayed at the University of Florida in Gainesville, also winning multiple blue ribbons in art shows around the U.S. As she retired, she prayed consistently for her family, and always did her best to share her love, even when she couldn't reach out. Verna will be dearly missed by those that knew her.

Verna is survived by her children, Ronda (Roger) Gephart of Goreville, IL, Karla (Tim) Hackler of Brooksville, FL, and Steven (Julie) Stanfield of Charleston, IL; grandchildren, Rodney (Rhodes) Gephart of Azua, Dominican Republic, Ryan (Jane) Gephart of Littleton, CO, Rana (Jeremy) Davis of Centennial, CO, Danielle (Mihai) Rotaru of Dunnellon, FL, Isaac (Julie) Hackler of Colorado Springs, CO, Micah (Robbie) Ortiz of Spring Hill, FL, Jarret Stanfield of Charleston, IL, and several great grandchildren; siblings, Sharon Kay Rice of Pilot, VA, Jana Rae (Jerry) Quigg of Chandler, AZ, and Raymond Richard "Rick" (Debi) Phillips of Olney, IL, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her granddaughter, Kalen Salinas.

Private family services will be held for Verna on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, and the interment will be at Crest Haven Memorial Park in rural Claremont, IL.
