John F. Gilbert

John Forrest Gilbert,  80, of Hobbs, New Mexico passed away May 27, 2011.  John was born August 18, 1930, to Oren and Dorothy (Shuff) Gilbert Hamlin in Hutchison Kansas. He married Barbaro Winslow on September 26, 1955, in Falls Church, Virginia.

He was a member of Civil Air Patrol. He was in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a surveyor and worked as a surveyor in the oil field most of his life. He enjoyed square dancing and sking. He was a member of the Jubilee Choir and played tuba with the Hobbs Community Band. He was a member of Taylor Street Church of Christ. He enjoyed traveling, spending time with his family and meeting his friends at Daylight Donuts.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Hobbs; five children, Mike and wife Kren of Hobbs, Ginny Goetz of Shallowater, TX, Steve of Germany, Nancy and husband John Davis of Shallowater, TX, and Jim and wife Jessica of Benbrook, TX; seven grandchildren: ten great-grandchildren and two nieces.
