Jo Ann Totten (Kobernus)

Jo Kobernus, 87, of Virginia, Illinois died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

She was born Aug. 12, 1929 in Olney, the daughter of Charles and Fannie Mae Stivers Totten. She married Alvin “Al” Kobernus on Jan. 30, 1949 in Olney and he survives.

She is also survived by a daughter, Becky Sudbrink (husband, Steve) of Virginia; two grandchildren, Lauren Weinbaum (husband, Brian) of El Segundo, Calif., and Taylor Sudbrink (wife, Jeneisa) of Spokane, Wash.; two great grandchildren, Olivia Weinbaum and Warren Sudbrink; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and six siblings, Levern Totten, Paul Totten, Charlene Totten Graper, Captolia Totten Jennings, Mildred Totten Navolt, and Charles Totten Jr.

Jo was a 1947 graduate of Olney High School and worked as a teller and bookkeeper for several banks. She later served over 30 years as Church secretary for the Virginia United Methodist Church. She is a member of St. Luke Parish in Virginia. A people person, Jo was devoted to developing and maintaining friendships though out the community and truly valued the time she shared with her family and friends. Cooking was her passion and she enjoyed spending time in her kitchen preparing food for others.

Following cremation, a memorial Mass was held at St. Luke Catholic Church in Virginia with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia.
