Bill Shipley, 75, of Olney died Wednesday October 18, 2000 at his residence.  The body will be cremated.

Mr. Shipley was born on May 18, 1925 in Richland County, the son of Jesse and Mamie (Jones) Shipley, Sr. He married Joyce Scanlin on March 28, 1948 and she survives.

He served as Richland County Sheriff for two terms, was a deputy and chief deputy, worked for State of Illinois Department of Mines & Minerals, was a World War II decorated Marine gunner on USS Mississippi, servind in the South Pacific Campaigns and was a member of VFW, American Legion and Oddfellows.

Mr. Shipley is survived by his wife, Joyce Shipley of Olney; a son, Doug Shipley and his wife, Yvonne of Las Vegas, Nevada; a daughter, Sue Ellen Ritchie of Olney; a granddaughter, Yalonda Ritchie Dugan and her husband, Shawn of Missouri; a brother, George Shipley of Olney and two sisters, Irene Bookman of Freeport and Naomi Mackey of Olney.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Julia and two brothers, Paul and Willard.
