Betijean Marjorie Scanlin Tidwell, 70, of Brownsville, Texas died Sunday, May 19, 1996, at Brownsville Medical Center.

She was born in Cowden, Ill., and was a resident of Brownsville since 1970.

She was a retired school teacher for the Brownsville Independent School District and taught at Garden Park Elementary School for over 20 years.

Survivors include two sons, Michael C. Tidwell of Mesquite, Texas, and William
Francis Tidwell Jr. of Brownsville; two daughters, Cynthia J. Johnston of  Wichita, Kan., and Julia Lynn Burtness of Shalimar, Fla.; a granddaughter  Shannon Marie Burtness of Shalimar, Fla.; a sister, Joyce Scanlin Shipley of Olney, Ill., and ex-husband and children's father, William Francis Tidwell Sr., of Navarre, Fla.
