
Irma Lou Conrad, age 93, of Mount Zion, passed away March 25, 2024 at the Mount Zion Health and Rehab Nursing Home in Mount Zion, IL.
Irma was born in Robinson, IL, on April 15, 1930, to Oris Arthur Conrad and Grace Irene Cooper. She attended grade school and high school in Robinson, IL.
Irma taught school thirty-seven years, mostly in the Decatur public schools as a physical education teacher and also as a special education teacher. She also taught in Olney, IL, and also in Findlay, IL.
Irma was a God loving person and attended Elwin United Methodist Church in Elwin, IL, until her health prevented her from attending.
Irma was a member of the national teachers' association, the Illinois Teachers Association, the Decatur Teachers Association, and several physical education associations.
Irma attended Eastern Illinois university where she received her bachelor's degree with a major in physical education. She also received a master's degree in education from George Peabody in Nashville, TN. She also did additional work at the University of Illinois and Western Michigan University.
Irma lived with her best friend, Betty Woodring. Irma and Betty travelled in a motorhome throughout much of their time together. Often, they were not alone in their adventures, notably a trip to New Orleans with their sisters, Shirley and Margaret. Some of their favorite memories were the Montreal Olympics, Grand Canyon, Disney Land, Disney World, Hershey, Pennsylvania and many national parks.
Irma is survived by one sister, Margaret Hummel of Oblong, IL. She also has several nephews and nieces. Irma is preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Warren Clyde Conrad; and two sisters: Karen Knoblett of Robinson, and Jean Schaffer of Palestine.
