Gilbert C. Kettelkamp (History 1930)

Gilbert Charles Kettelkamp, 90, of Urbana, Illinois died Thursday, October 21, 1993 in Meadowbrook Healthcare Center at Urbana.

Mr. Kettelkamp was born September 26, 1903 near Nokomis, Illinois, the second son of August H. and Minnie (Reincke) Kettelkamp. He married Ona C. Webb December 25, 1928 in Plainfield, and she preceded him in death August 24, 1992.

Professor Kettelkamp served on the University of Illinois staff from 1937 until his retirement in 1971. He received his A.B/Degree in 1928 from the University of Illinois. This degree was followed by an M.A. Degree in 1931. His major fields of study were German, European History and Education. In 1944 he completed his Ph.D in the same three fields.

He taught in several public schools in Illinois, including his first position at Nokomis. At the University of Illinois he directed and supervised the foreign language teacher training program and taught courses in the teaching of foreign languages. He taught German in both the University High School and the German Department at the University. Additional time was spent working in the teacher placement office at the University.

He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church and was a member of many professional organizations.

Surviving are one son, Larry of Cranbury, NJ; one daughter, Karlyn Ford in Walnut Creek, CA and five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services at the Huegy Lounge of Clark-Lindsey Village, Urbana. Services then in South Fork United Methodist Church, Nokomis with burial to follow in Kettelkamp Cemetery at Nokomis.
