Clifford Earl Lutz

CLIFFORD E. LUTZ KILLED IN ACCIDENT ~ Clifford E. Lutz, 38, of 704 W. Butler St., husband of Bethel Lynch Lutz, was fatally injured in an automobile accident east of Flora near the Pure Oil Truck Stop on U.S. 50, at about 5 o'clock Monday evening, April 25, 1960.

His wife is a patient at Clay County Hospital in Flora, in fair condition with a broken pelvis and other injuries suffered in the accident.

His father, William E. "Babe" Lutz, 63 of Olney, was treated for apparently minor injuries and was not admitted to the hospital although he was examined at Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney.

Details of the accident are lacking. However, police report that the eastbound car, driven by Babe Lutz apparently  went out of control and crossed into the westbound lane of traffic. The Lutz auto was hit in the right  fender by a westbound car driven by Jack Ellis, 30 and occupied by his wife and two children. The four in the Ellis car were treated for minor injuries and all were released after treatment and examination.

It was reported that another eastbound car was in front of Lutz at the time and was signaling to make a turn, however it is not known whether the third car was in any way connected with the accident.

Clifford Lutz is survived by his wife and father.

Funeral services held in the Chapel of the Schaub Funeral Home with burial in Haven Hill Cemetery.
