Theodore Sylvester Nowak - Class Of 1941

Theodore Sylvester Nowak

Theodore S. "Ted" Nowak, age 50, well known resident of Olney was found dead in his truck in Southwest Olney Township yesterday afternoon, November 26, 1971.  Death was due to natural causes.

Mr. Nowak was a native of Britt, Iowa born October 13, 1921, and was the son of Stanley Nowak Sr. and Agnes Luezak Nowak.  Mr. Nowak was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Olney.  He had been employed in recent months by the Don Slape Drilling Company of Olney.

Ted was a veteran of World War II and had been discharged as a S/Sgt. of the 129th Engineer Battalion.  He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and the Military Order of Cooties.

He will be remembered by many people as an outstanding semi-pro baseball pitcher and his reputation was well known throughout this area.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine; three sisters, Martha and Jane Nowak both of Olney, Mrs. Stella Swiader of Chicago and a brother, Stanley Nowak Sr. also of Olney.  He had several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and the following brothers and sisters: Pearl Harmon, Alex, Ed, Frank, Chester, Gladys, John and Alexander Nowak.

Funeral services held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Olney with the Rev. Fr. Vincent Haselhorst the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass.  Interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery.  Military rites conducted at graveside by the Olney Veterans organizations.

Debbie Novak (Jones) (1970)

This is my Uncle Ted , my Dad's youngest brother . He and my Aunt Maxine spent some time just at the other end of the alley from my family . I love to hear "some" of the stories about Uncle Ted ,especially about his  close call as a professional ball player with the BIG League ~My Dad was sure proud of that .
