Helen Lehwald (Davis)

Services held at the Boardman United Methodist Church Chapel for Helen Lehwald Davis, 89. She passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon at her home. (September 2010)

Mrs. Davis was born Oct. 26, 1920, in Olney, Ill., a daughter of Rev. Herman A. and Lily Walker Lehwald.

She was a 1936 graduate of Olney High School. She followed her brother to Salem where she had worked as a secretary at Electric Furnace Company and at Isley’s in Youngstown as a waitress.

She was a member of the church and had been active in many groups. She was a former member of Order of the Eastern Star, Themis Federation, and Boardman Kiwaniqueens.

She enjoyed bowling and playing golf.

Her husband, Alfred H. Davis Sr., whom she married Dec. 18, 1942 and died June 24, 1981.

Surviving her are three daughters, Susan K. Davis Eliser of Brookfield, Laura L. Burke of North Lima and Amy L. (Denis) Lunne of Canfield; a son, Alfred H. “Fred” (Buffy) Davis Jr. of Boardman; 15 grandchildren, Jessica (Chris) Caruso, David Eliser, Luke Eliser, Brandon Burke, Brenna Burke, Bryce Burke, Brin Burke, A.H. Davis, Kyle Davis, Jay Davis, Meghan Lunne, Darian Lunne, Clara Harvey, Justine Lunne and Emma Lunne; six great-grandchildren, Jude, Lucia, Gavin, Taylor, Brady, and Dalhia; and a niece whom was raised with her, Dorothea Thompson of Jewett.

Preceding her in death besides her husband and parents are six sisters, Clara Knox, Edna Johnson, Dorothea Lehwald, Florence Lehwald, Louise Hersman and Mary Williams and six brothers, Dr. Carl Lehwald, Atty. John Lehwald, Rev. Herman Lehwald, Howard Lehwald, George Lehwald, and Richard Lehwald.
