Paul R. King

Paul R. King, 72, of Rocky River, Ohio passed away March 21, 2011 in Rocky River.

Paul became a radio announcer in Olney, IL at the age of 15. After graduation from high school, he went on to the University of Illinois where he worked in the radio station there. He had to decide weather to stay in school to be a journalist or take a job at a radio station. He left for a job at WPEO in Peoria, IL then on to Wichita, KS and KLEO. There he met his wife, Sue Ann, whom he married on September 7, 1963.

He came to Cleveland, Ohio in 1966 where he worked for WHK on air as one of the “Good Guys”, and behind the scenes as assistant program director then program director. In 1973 he and his partner, George Gates opened Commercial Recording Studios and he became a voice over announcer for Forest City, May Company, Ohio Lottery, Academic Challenge, Channel 8 and ABC Saturday Morning Cartoons, among others. Paul, for a time, was the president of AFTRA (The American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) as well as a stint as the President of the Board for the Winterhurst Figure Skating Club. Among his many accomplishments he was one of Cleveland Magazine's Most Interesting people in 1984. He also M.C.'d many figure skating competitions, as well as arranging music for many national skaters.

He was also a veteran of the National Guard.

He was the beloved husband of Sue Ann (nee Benne); loving father of Kathleen Harrison (Kevin), Kelly L. (Gina), John P. and the late Scott D. Grandfather of Shannon Krupar (Thomas) and Sean. Great-grandfather of Dakota, Lillian, Isabelle, Kevin, Andrew. Brother of Richard (Eleanor) and the late Ronald.
