Larry Chambers (Science, Drivers Ed. 1971-1983)

Larry E. Chambers, 83 of Franklin, IN passed away Friday, June 28, 2024 at the Community South Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. He was born in Dugger, IN May 6, 1941 the son of Bert Chambers and Pearl (Cowden) Chambers.

Larry graduated from Dugger Union High School in 1959, and from Indiana State University in 1963. He was a retired schoolteacher. He taught Biology, Life Sciences and Drivers Ed.  He coached Basketball and other sports at several High Schools including Winamac IN, Martinsville IN, Oblong IL, East Richland High School in Olney IL, and Franklin High School in Franklin, IN. Larry was also known for his woodworking, remodeling, and gardening.

He was preceded in death by his parents, also a daughter, Laurie Church, three sisters, Juanita Dennis, Maxine Steves, and Barbara Davis, a brother, Arnold Chambers. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis (Ammerman) Chambers of 62 years whom he married on July 28, 1961, a son, Chris Chambers of Brown Co., IN, a sister, Patricia Irons (Mike) of Columbus, IN, and one granddaughter, Elizabeth “Lizzy” Chambers. There will be a celebration of Life at a Later Date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Larry’s name to the Dugger Coal Museum, Sullivan County Historical Society or the Woodward Cemetery, Dugger IN.

So sad to hear this.  :  (   I taught years with Larry at ERHS. He was a wonderful teacher and friend. I was broken-hearted when I heard the same for his precious daughter, Laurie, who was a pure joy to have taught her, who passed way to young. Hoping they have re-united in Heaven!
