Paul Moyes (Guidance 1966-1987)

Paul Gregory Moyes died peacefully on March 5, 2025 in Fort Walton Beach, Florida where he lived in memory care near his son and daughter in law David and Tish Moyes. David, Tish and Paula Moyes were with him when he passed. His son Steve Moyes preceded him in death May 5, 2012. His wife of 68 years preceded him in death on August 5, 2023. Both of them suffered from dementia the last eight years of their lives.

Paul was born in St. Francisville, Illinois June 30, 1932 and welcomed by his parents Howard and Opal Moyes. He had two younger siblings: a sister, Mary and a brother, Joey. He grew up in St. Francisville where his father worked for the railroad and his mother was a homemaker. He attended the Catholic school until 8th grade and then transferred to the public school for high school so he could participate in sports. He played basketball and during a game in Lawrenceville he met “that red haired girl” and future wife, Donna Mickey. They were married February 17,1953. Paul was in the Navy at that time, and they moved to San Diego, California where Paul served on a submarine and spent time in Tokyo, Japan.

Paula Moyes was born in January 1954 in San Diego. Steve Moyes was born two years later in Lawrenceville, Illinois after the family left San Diego. Paul spent four years in the Navy and taking advantage of the GI Bill, the family moved to Charleston, Illinois for college. Paul graduated with a degree in teaching physical education and coaching. He later completed a master’s degree in guidance and counseling. David Moyes was born in November 1959 and the family moved to Olney where Paul and Donna lived for the next 68 years.

Throughout his life Paul was devoted to his wife and family enjoying Sunday and holiday dinners and teaching his five grandsons to fish. He loved traveling with his wife and family. He is the proud great grandfather of a great granddaughter and five great grandsons.

Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney has been entrusted with arrangements.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home, Olney. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home, Olney.

Interment will take place on Thursday, March 13, 2025 at Haven Hill Memorial Gardens. Full Military Rites at the graveside.

David Shafer (1969)

So sad to hear. What a GREAT person! Was good friends with my father, Robert (Bob) Shafer and me as well. He was my Guidance Counselor at ERHS. When I was a Freshy he helped me mature. I will always remember when he ask me what I wanted to be and I said a Pro Baseball Player. He was so kind and asked if I had another option. Bless you Paul & Donna!
