Leo Goodman

Ralph Leo "Red" Goodman, 80, of Springfield died Thursday, July 13, 2000, at St. John's Hospice.

He was born Oct. 22, 1919, in Cleburne, Texas, the son of C.A. and Gladys Bassett Goodman. He married Josephine Vunetich in 1946.

Mr. Goodman, a resident of Springfield for 22 years and Chatham for 10 years, was employed for 16 years as an administrator with the State Board of Education. He was a member of Kumler United Methodist Church, attended the University of Illinois and earned three degrees, bachelor of science, master of education and advanced certificate in education. He started his career in Lovington and Milford. He was elected to three honorary scholastic fraternities, Alpha Tau Alpha, Alpha Zeta and Chi Gamma Iota. He was PACE Outstanding Adult Educator in 1973-1974 and IACEA President' s Award in 1983.

He was a World War II Army Air Corps Veteran.

Survivors: wife, Josephine; two daughters, Sue (husband, W.R.) Bradle of Fort Worth, Texas, and Peggy (husband, John) Tenison of San Antonio; a son, Patrick (wife, Jackie) Goodman of Springfield; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services: Staab Funeral Home, the Rev. Roosevelt Sam Smith II officiating.
