Karen Teeven (Iny) - Class Of 1965

Karen Teeven (Iny)

Karen (Teeven) Iny, 77, of La Grange Park, Illinois, died Sunday June 2nd, 2024 at La Grange Memorial Hospital. Karen was born on December 31st, 1946 in Olney, IL to Edward and Geraldine (Hahn) Teeven.

She graduated from East Richland High School in 1965. She studied education at Eastern Illinois University and later taught grade school in Mattoon, IL. She graduated from Concordia University Chicago in 1987 with a BA in Psychology and Education.

She was a resident of Bartram Road, Riverside, IL from 1978 until 2023. She owned and operated The Tower Shop Hallmark Store in downtown Riverside from 1992 until 2002. Later she taught in the Berwyn North School District from 2004 until 2016.

Karen was a quintessential people person; she had never, ever, met a stranger. She engaged people with a gusto that was uniquely her own. Her love of people, and ability to connect with almost anyone, was a gift she inherited from her parents. She deeply loved and cared for her family and friends.

Her neighbors and friends formed an incredibly tight knit and supportive community. The enduring commitment and care of those individuals is a testament to the depth of their love for one another. Rita Heinselman Batek, Ellen Tabaka, Linda Githens, Dorothy Calek, Francine Murr, Sister Catherine McBride, Cathi Conner, and Denise Brennan were among Karen’s closest friends.

She spent the last year of her life surrounded by the incredible residents and staff of Bethlehem Woods Village.

She is survived by son and daughter-in-law Aaron and Rebecca Iny of Jerusalem, Israel; brother Kevin Teeven of Peoria, IL; brother Jeff Teeven of St. Louis, MO; and brother Dan Teeven, brother John Teeven, nephew Anthony Teeven, grandnephew Hyat Teeven, and dearly beloved Rocky Sexton, all of The Bend — Embarras River Basin, Sainte Marie, IL.

She was preceded in her death by her parents, brother David Teeven, Uncle Bill Hunt and Aunt Marian Hunt.

May her memory be for a blessing.

A memorial service honoring Karen’s life will be held Monday, June 10th in Oak Brook, IL

Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home, Olney, IL

Karen and I had some great times together. So sorry we lost touch but thought about her often. Sorry to hear of her passing.
