Crash Claims Two Lives in Richland County

(EFFINGHAM) The investigation is continuing into a two vehicle crash that occurred along U.S. Route 50, at the Crest Haven Road intersection, two miles west of the Richland/Lawrence County line, at 8:22 this past Saturday night. The State Police report 60 year old Julie Mines from Lawrenceville, driving a 1996 GMC Sierra, was eastbound on Route 50 at County Road 1900, East, when for unknown reasons her pickup truck crossed the center line and struck a westbound 1997 Dodge Ram pickup truck head-on. The other driver was 32 year old Edward Worrell from Noble. Both drivers were pronounced deceased at the accident scene. Route 50 was closed for several hours with emergency personnel from Olney, Richland County, and Lawrence County assisting at the crash site.

Julie Ann (Marks) Mines, 60, of Lawrenceville, Illinois formerly of Olney, passed away Saturday, September 18, 2021. Julie was born on November 2, 1960 in Olney, Illinois, the daughter of William Alan Marks and Violet Lucille (Snyder).

Julie enjoyed her dogs and spending time with her kids and grandkids. She worked at Ruckers Candy in Bridgeport. Julie took pleasure in being outdoors and traveling, especially to amusement parks and riding roller coasters.

Julie Ann Mines is survived by her daughter, Misty Crouse of Terre Haute, IN; daughter, Kathleen Cribelar and husband Travis of Casey, IL; son, Billy Ray (Cathy Bond) Crouse of Palestine, IL; daughter, Jenny (Matt Mattingly) Mines of Huntingburg, IN; grandchildren, Joshua Crouse, Brian and Matthew Wells, Megan Cribelar, Matty and Tristen Smith, Violet, Ivy, and Levi Mattingly; sisters, Vicki Marks of Olney, and Susan (Randy) Block of Flora, nieces, Amy and Ashley Montgomery, Jackie (Justin) Akers, and Jennie Block.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and son, Danny Mines

A Celebration of Life will be held for Julie at 3:00 PM on Friday, September 24, 2021 at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney, with a visitation beginning one hour before service time at the funeral home.
