Olney Driver Killed in Collision

An Olney man died Friday, April 6, 2001 from injuries he received when his car was struck by a semi tractor.

Monte R. Hanson, 42, was pronounced dead at the scene about 3:50 p.m. Friday. The wreck, in which he was involved, took place on Illinois 130 about one mile south of Parkersburg, Illinois in Richland County, according to Illinois State Police.

Hanson’s car was struck by the semi, driven by Gene Minks, 51, Bloomfield, Ind. Hanson failed to stop at a posted sign and drove into the path of the semi, police said. Hanson was thrown from his vehicle at the time of the impact.

Monte R. Hanson Jr., 42, of rural Olney, died Friday, April 6, 2001, south of Parkersburg in rural Richland County the result of a vehicle accident.  Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery in Parkersburg.

Mr. Hanson was born on March 10, 1959, in rural Richland County, the son of Monte R. Sr. and Vivian (Slover) Hanson.

He was an oil field laborer and auto mechanic. He attended the World Wide Church of God.

Mr. Hanson is survived by two sons, Justin Hanson and Zachary Hanson, of Oregon; his mother, Vivian Hanson, of Olney; four brothers, Bryan and Darius Hanson, of Orlando, Fla.; three sisters, Melanie Thacker, of Winter Haven, Fla., Kim Schwartzlose and her husband, Ron, of Parkersburg, and Sheri Miller, of Parkersburg; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Monte R. Hanson Sr. in March of 1999, one nephew.
