Edwin Ed J. Pool

Edwin “Ed” Joe Pool, age 74 of Paris, Illinois passed away at 9:12 PM on Monday, October 7, 2024 at the Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care in Terre Haute, Indiana surrounded by family. 

The Rosary will be recited at 3:30 PM on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home with visitation to follow from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, October 14, 2024 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Aloysius Ndeanaefo officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. 

Ed was born on February 28, 1950 in Olney, Illinois to Lee Donald and Pauline Stanley Pool. He married Anne Roth, his high school sweetheart, on January 24, 1970 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Olney, Illinois.

Ed dedicated over five decades to the Paris community with his hardware store, Pool’s True Value.  He was a member of Rotary, PEDCO, Knights of Columbus, Elks Lodge, and Pheasants Forever. As a member of the Rotary Club, he was a Paul Harris Fellow.  Ed was an active member of St. Mary’s Parish where he faithfully served as a Eucharist Minister. 

Beyond his professional and civic organizations, Ed was a devoted family man. He found joy in coaching his children in sports. He enjoyed boat rides, Sunday visits, an afternoon on the golf course, and sitting oceanside with his family. Family and friends will remember his quick wit and humor.  

He is survived by his wife, Anne Pool; his children: Amy (the late Roger) Malatt, Emily (Norm) Holmstrom, Gary (Colleen) Pool, Philip (Brandy) Pool, Alicia (Patrick) Kiel, and  Megan (Seth) Berry; his grandchildren: Jonathan (Sherise) Petersen, Brodie (Michelle), Steven, Daniel, Eliana, and Theresa Malatt; Justin McElroy, Madeline (Josh) Kiebles, Michael, Levi, Alex, and Tyler Holmstrom; Blake, Sydney, Byron Pool; Thomas, Lila, and William Pool; Aidan, Seán, Alana, Kathleen, and Fulton Kiel; Layla, Simon, and Deacon Berry; and his great-grandchildren Maverick and two on the way.  

Brother of Dan (Maria) Pool, Stanley (Marjorie) Pool, Jerry (Marilou) Pool, Donna (Dick) Brinkley, Sheryll (Lee) Mitchell; and his siblings-in-law: Virginia (John) Resor, Mary Theriac, Jerry (Sharon) Roth, John (Diana) Roth, Cathy (Alan) Dibelka, Janet Clark, Mark (Shawny) Roth, Margaret (Eric) King, Chris Borah, Becky (Willie) McKinney, and Carol (Terry) Luebbert. 

Ed is preceded in death by his parents, and his sons-in-law: Samuel McElroy and Roger Malatt. 

Memorial contributions may be made to Best Buddies Cinco Ranch High School, Cinco Ranch High School Joy Prom, or Shriners Hospital for Children.
