George W. Fehrenbacher - Class Of 1968

George W. Fehrenbacher

George W. (Bill) Fehrenbacher, 71, passed away on December 3, 2021. Bill was born on January 10, 1950 to Lucille (Hoffman) and Roy Fehrenbacher in Olney, Illinois.

He attended Olney schools prior to entering the Army in January of 1968. He served in Vietnam as a staff sergeant assigned to the 25th Infantry division for 19 months, based out of Cochi Tayninh. Upon returning home he worked for Caterpillar Tractor for over 30 years, retiring as a general supervisor.

Bill was an avid golfer who won 19 championship flight amateur tournaments including 5 Aurora City Tournaments. He also qualified and participated in 7 Illinois Opens, the Illinois Amateur, Illinois State Senior Amateur, and participated in the USGA Public Links at Cog Hill Country Club and the USGA Mid-Amateur Championship at Crooked Stick in Carmel, Indiana. He was a member of the Oldsmobile Scramble National Championship team in Orlando, Florida. When Bill’s golf game started to age, he took up fishing. He always said “Those crappies taste a little better than those double bogies.”

Bill had two passions in life, felling trees, and finding and reconditioning lost golf balls. He happily pursued these passions full time in retirement.

Bill was preceded in death by his mother and father, sisters Pat Fehrenbacher and Mary Fehrenbacher, and brother Jerry Fehrenbacher, and beloved dog, Tilly.

He is survived by his wife Margaret and daughters Sarah (Nate) Thielk and Emily (Zac Mannix) Fehrenbacher; siblings Jody Graham, Ed (Kathy) Fehrenbacher and Terry Fehrenbacher; and special niece and nephew Katie Fehrenbacher and Michael (Carly) Fehrenbacher.

Bill will be laid to rest in his hometown, Olney.

Donations in Bill’s name may be made to the St. Joseph School scholarship fund, 520 E. Chestnut St. Olney, IL 62450.
